‘GramSanjeevani’ for E-Powering Rural India IKSL’s Ambitious Rural Portal launched by the Honorable Chairman (IFFCO), Shri Balvinder Singh Nakai, on 27th February 2015

IKSL’s ambitious project for e-transformation of Rural India - ‘GramSanjeevani’, was inaugurated during IFFCO’s Board Meeting held on 27th February 2015, by the Honorable Shri Balvinder Singh Nakai, Chairman (IFFCO). The launch of ‘GramSanjeevani’ was witnessed by the distinguished Directors of IFFCO, Dr U.S. Awasthi, MD (IFFCO) and other senior executives of IFFCO. Shri R. Kapur, JMD (IFFCO) / MD (IKSL) explained the objectives of the Portal. Shri S. Malhotra, CEO (IKSL) and Mr T. Sudhakar, Head (IT&BD) made a brief presentation on the rationale behind the Portal and highlighted the important features.

Uniqueness of ‘GramSanjeevani’

Over the years, IKSL has developed expertise in understanding the requirements of farmers and their concerns. This has helped in development of vast databases of advisories in text and audio form in ten Indian languages by IKSL. ‘GramSanjeevani’ is an attempt to take this useful information to a much larger audience not limited by mobile platform. There is a significant rise in adoption of data access in rural India and greater penetration of Internet in last few years. This channel of engagement facilitates better interactivity, opportunity for the users to take a ‘deep dive’ into IKSL’s Content - at their convenience in their own language in text, audio and video format. The users can set their Homepage to reflect their interests – State to which they belong, subject, locations for mandies and weather, etc. Mobile Applications of relevance to farmers are also being added.

Additional features

Our endeavour is to encourage bringing together , local demand and supply , through advertisements and more intensive services such as virtual extension services, promotion of rural crafts and rural tourism. These modules are being developed and launched in a phased manner. Eventually, the portal will attempt to promote demand for products and services from rural India and also provide a convenient platform for rural India to meet their requirements from a village. Rural prosperity through facilitation of informed decision making and development of a trusted source of transactions are the eventual goals of ‘GramSanjeevani’.
